Saudi Arabia slashed purchases of Russian barley
561.75 KMT of Russian barley was exported in August (+11% from July and -5% from August 2020/21). Barley exports since the season’s beginning had totaled 1068 KMT (-18% y-o-y).
The leading buyer of Russian barley is Turkey, which imported roughly 363 KMT for the two months (by contrast, 303 KMT was purchased for the entire 2020/21 season).
Saudi Arabia noticeably reduced barley imports from Russia – by 76% from the same time last year, with its share in Russian exports down at 18%, UkrAgroConsult reports.
Apart from Saudi Arabia, a slump is seen in purchases by Jordan, which were down 64% from July-August 2020/21.
The following countries stepped up purchases compared to the same time last year: Iran (doubled), Libya (+18%).
In August, Russian barley was shipped to Iraq (63 KMT), for the first time since March 2019.
