The General Authority for Food Security of Saudi Arabia (GFSA) announced on May 15 the launch of the third tender for 2025 for the import of 655,000 tons of wheat. This step is part of the state’s strategy to strengthen strategic reserves and ensure the stability of wheat supply in the domestic market.

According to the terms of the tender, the shipment of wheat should take place from August to October 2025. The importer expects to receive 11 batches of wheat with a protein content of 12.5% of any origin. The supply is distributed between ports: 240,000 tons will arrive in Jeddah from August 15 to November 15, the same volume will arrive in the port of Yanbu from August 15 to October 15, 120,000 tons will arrive in Dammam from August 15 to September 30, and 55,000 tons will arrive in Jizan in the first half of October.

The head of the institution, Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Al-Faris, noted that the tender aims to meet the growing needs of Saudi Arabia’s milling companies and ensure sufficient wheat to support the food industry. According to him, this will also contribute to strengthening national food security. The institution seeks to ensure the availability of high-quality wheat at affordable prices in the local market.

This tender is a continuation of a series of procurements launched this year. In January, Saudi Arabia completed the procedure for concluding contracts to import 920,000 tons of wheat from various regions, including the European Union, North and South America, Australia and the Black Sea region. Diversifying sources of supply allows the country to minimize risks associated with fluctuations in global markets and disruptions in supply chains.
