Russia will not sell this year’s pea crop

Vladimir Petrenchenko, General Director of ProZerno, warns of the possible formation of significant end stocks of peas in Russia due to the record harvest and doubts the ability to sell it all. According to his estimate, the total harvest of legumes in 2025 could reach 7.5 million tons, of which 5.23 million tons are peas. For comparison, in 2023, 4.7 million tons of peas were harvested, while 3.1 million tons were exported, which was made possible by large production failures in Canada and high demand on the world market.
Currently, the expert doubts that Russian producers will be able to export similar volumes. Because of this, the market is expected to accumulate transitional stocks, which will put pressure on prices. Last season, the price of peas rose to 22–26 thousand rubles/t (≈259–306 $/t), and now it has fallen to 15–16 thousand rubles/t (≈176–188 $/t) and continues to decline.
