Romania repaired the railway ahead of schedule in order to export grain from Ukraine as soon as possible

Romania has completed the repair of the railway, which will deliver Ukrainian grain. The work was done a month earlier in order to speed up exports.
This morning (we are talking about July 7 – Channel 24) a broad-line railway to the port of Galati was opened. The work carried out by CFR Infrastructure began on June 6 and was completed almost a month ahead of schedule,” Grindyan wrote.
The politician also explained that freight trains coming from Ukraine through Moldova can unload Ukrainian grain directly to port of Galati, without reloading at the border.
“Grain will arrive faster at the port of Galati, reloaded on barges or stored in a silo in the port, with a capacity of 25,000 tons,” the Minister of Transport explained.
It is worth remembering that the repair of this section of the railway of the Odessa region was discussed back in May. Then it became known that:
- they would repair the track from the Moldavian city of Giurgiulesti to the port in the city of Galati;
- this section of the railway is connected to the Ukrainian city of Renni in the south of the Odessa region;
- Romania estimated the cost of the work at 1.28 million lei.
Important!The width of railway tracks in Romania is European, while in Ukraine and Moldova they are wider. However, the Giurgiulesti-Galati railway line has a “combined” track – rails are laid here simultaneously for both the European track and the wide one. Therefore, trains from Ukraine can run to the port without unnecessary stops.
