Romania has overtaken Germany as the leader in the purchase of oil in Ukraine
In January-August 2022, Ukraine exported oil crops worth $1.712 billion, doubling the figure for the corresponding period last year.
This was informed by the deputy director of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Mykola Pugachev.
During the reporting period, the leading position in terms of export volumes of goods of this group is occupied by sunflower, which was shipped 1.6 million tons worth $823 million. The export sale of 0.9 million tons of rapeseed brought in revenue of $415 million, and 0.8 million tons of soybeans — $413 million .
“A characteristic feature of January-August 2022 was the preservation of the influence of the European vector in the domestic export of oil crops. In general, the EU member states bought about 3/4 of the products of this group in Ukraine,” the scientist noted.
It is noted that Germany, which for the past five years held the leading position in the ranking of the largest importers of Ukrainian oilseeds, gave way to Romania. Its share in total exports was 19.3%. In eight months of 2022, Romania purchased Ukrainian oilseed crops worth $331 million.
It is closely followed by Bulgaria (18.0%) and Turkey (16.9%).
Significantly smaller purchases of oil crops were made by Poland (12.2%), Hungary (7.9%), Germany (5.9%), Moldova (3.7%), and the Netherlands (3.1%).
The total share of these eight countries in Ukrainian exports is 87%.
