Restrictions on the export of rapeseed and soybeans may be introduced as early as July 1. According to MP Andriy Motovylovets, one of the authors of the relevant initiative, this date is a response to trade restrictions from the European Union, but at the same time an attempt to support Ukrainian processing. He told this in an interview with Latifundist.com.

Motovylovets explained that the decision was made on the basis of statistics: it is from July that active exports of oilseeds abroad begin.

“From July 1, raw materials leave the Ukrainian market,” says Motovylovets.

In order for domestic processing enterprises not to be left without raw materials, they decided to act through an accelerated procedure — that is why the restrictions were “stitched” into the so-called “medical bill.”

In response to the arguments of farmers that instead of a duty, factories can simply offer a better price, the MP replies that traders benefit from VAT.

“Raw materials are exported by traders who compete with our production facilities. This is a matter of protecting our own producers,” he explains.

Motovylovets says that previously Ukraine simply did not have enough processing capacities to cover the domestic market. Now the situation is different – the plants are ready to work. And, according to him, this creates an incentive.

“Domestic processors will raise prices to compete for raw materials,” Motovylovets says.

When asked about the fact that Ukraine is not a global player in rapeseed and soybeans, as is the case with sunflower, the deputy replied that “we can start competing on the world market for meal.”
