Rapeseed yield in the EU in 2025 will be 9% higher than last year
The MARS crop monitoring service on Tuesday raised its forecast for the average yield of soft wheat in the EU from 6.00 to 6.03 t/ha compared to March estimates, which would be 8% higher than the 2024 figure. At the same time, the forecast for rapeseed yield was left unchanged at 3.2 t/ha, which would be 9% higher than last year.
A dry March worsens the harvest prospects in northeastern Europe, while crops in Turkey are suffering due to cold and drought.
In Central and Northern Europe, dry weather is increasing the deficit of soil moisture, which negatively affects the development of winter crops. At the same time, heavy rains in southern Europe are improving soil moisture and harvest prospects.
In the EU, corn and sunflower sowings continue and spring barley and sugar beet sowings have almost been completed. In the central and eastern regions, rains and intermittent cold spells have delayed sowing, requiring additional rainfall for initial plant growth.
Yield forecasts for Europe remain favorable, with above-average yields in Spain and Romania in particular, while yields in eastern Ukraine and the western Maghreb region, where drought conditions persist, will be well below average.
