Rapeseed looks promising in the western Romania
Article author:
In the west of Romania, where fields received enough moisture, farmers put big hopes for the new crop of rapeseed. Crops look good and the density of pods per branch is quite high. Production of 4,5 mt/ha is expected at some farms. Local producers hope for better prices after harvesting due to the frost damages caused to rapeseed in the neighboring Poland, high demand from Germany and lower production forecasts for the EU in 2024.
According to local traders, the best rapeseed prices will be recorded starting from October, but still, many farmers will have to sell during the harvest period, to ensure the flow of money they need to purchase inputs.
According to UkrAgroConsult, this season Romania will export record volume of rapeseed (2000 KMT), thanks to high carryover stocks after the active purchases from Ukraine last season.
In 2024/25 Romanian rapeseed export is seen lower, due to the losses of rapeseed area in the south-eastern and eastern parts after the snow deficit in winter as well as hot and dry weather in early spring.
