Rains in the US, Europe and South America improve the condition of crops, and in Australia – delay the harvest
Increased precipitation in South America is accelerating soybean and corn sowing, and in the US it is promoting the development of winter crops. In Western Europe, especially in France, prolonged precipitation delays harvesting and sowing, but improve the prospects for the harvest -2025.
In the Midwest and the Plains of the United States this week it rained, which improved the condition of crops, and next week a new cyclone will bring to the region even more powerful precipitation. Snow fell in the northern regions, and winter crops in Colorado and New Mexico are already protected by a layer of snow. Rising water levels in the Mississippi will improve the operation of export river terminals.
In central Brazil, the rainy season continues, favorable for soybeans and corn of the first harvest. In the South, the amount of precipitation is less, which allows to accelerate the harvest of wheat. Soybeans have been planted on 70% of the planned areas, and corn planting is nearing completion. Favorable precipitation is expected across the country next week.
In Argentina, it has also been raining, which allowed to start sowing at the optimal time. Currently, 36% of the planned areas have been planted with corn, and sunflower sowing is nearing completion. The Rosario Grain Exchange lowered its forecast for wheat harvest from 19.5 to 18.8 million tons, corn – from 51-52 to 50-51 million tons, but raised its forecast for soybeans – from 52-53 to 53-53.5 million tons.
Due to dry weather, winter wheat crops in Eastern Europe are in worse condition than in the Central and Northern regions. At the same time, precipitation in France delayed the harvesting of corn and sowing of winter crops. Next week throughout Europe will be heavy rainfall, which will improve the condition of crops. Analysts expect an increase in the area under winter rapeseed and wheat in the EU amid rising prices.
In Australia, recently established dry weather with intermittent rain, favorable for harvesting winter wheat, barley and canola, but sorghum and cotton crops need more rainfall. In the next 2 weeks the intensity of the rains will increase, but it will delay the harvest.
In Ukraine and in the South-East of Russia, there was little precipitation, which replenished moisture reserves in the topsoil. However, the moisture deficit in the fields remains, and the drop in temperatures next week will stop the development of plants. The condition of the crops is below average, and some of the winter wheat crops may remain unseeded.
