Temperatures will warm across the U.S. , especially in the Northeast, on Thursday and Friday, but a new front will bring snow and rain over the weekend, bringing a new wave of cold air that will last for at least a week. This could lead to losses to winter crops that don’t have enough snow cover. The cold front will spread to the southern regions next week.

In central and northern Brazil, the rainy season is continuing, which is favorable for soybean planting. But the harvest is due to begin in a week, and the rains will hinder it. If they continue into January and February, they will delay the soybean harvest and the planting of the second corn crop.

In the south, rainfall was much lower, negatively affecting soybean crops in Mato Grosso do Sul and corn in Rio Grande do Sul. A front could bring precipitation to these areas over the weekend, but it will be followed by another period of drought.

According to Safras&Mercado, as of January 10, first-crop corn has been harvested on 3.3% of the planned 3.512 million hectares (1% last year).

In most regions of Argentina, heat of 30-35 ° C and lack of precipitation reduce soil moisture and worsen the condition of crops. In the coming days, the country may experience rain, but it will be uneven and weak, so drought conditions will persist, and in the central regions they will reach critical levels.

In the west of the Russian Federation, wheat crops have entered a dormant state. In the west of the country, the condition of the crops is good, in the east and southwest – poor. The amount of precipitation has increased recently, but it was not enough to significantly moisten the soil and provide a sufficient layer of snow. By the end of January, there will be light rains, but the crops need more moisture and snow. The absence of frost in the next few weeks will reduce the risk of crop loss.

There have been isolated showers in eastern Australia , which have been good for sorghum and cotton crops. There has been less rainfall in the south and west, which has reduced soil moisture. Temperatures are well above normal, which is exacerbating the drought in western regions.
