Rains bring relieve for Romanian farmers, who switched to rapeseed from spring crops

Price of European rapeseed occasionally finds support from energy sector. However, the growth remains limited due to high global and local supply. On Euronext rapeseed is currently traded at about EUR 472/mt, which is 18% below last year.
Thus, large EU producers received higher crop, but receive less money per ton, which is not very satisfying for them due to the demanding nature of this crop, when it comes to seeding and germination conditions.
European Commission continues to increase average yield of Romanian rapeseed to a new all-time high (3.16 mt/ha). Together with record seeded area (788 th ha) the production in 2025 is seen now at 2.49 MMT.
After the difficult seeding campaign, situation for the crop 2026 is getting better in Romania. Some southern farmers risked and seeded rapeseed in the dry soil, using special technologies. Recent rains have improved the situation for crop development, apart from the areas where rains were particularly torrential.
