Polish farmers are preparing for protests again
Polish farmers did not hear answers to their questions at the meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, so they resort to a method they are already familiar with to achieve their goal: on Saturday, February 20, more than 100 agricultural machines will block the center of Wrocław.
Farmers traditionally complain about Ukraine, Mercosur, low prices and poor harvests.
“There is a lot of grain in warehouses that we cannot sell. The economic situation is very difficult, farms do not have finances. In addition, we constantly have to remind about matters related to Ukraine and Mercosur. We are in a spiral of low prices, no crop is profitable.”
Minister Stefan Krajewski emphasized that he is aware of most of the problems, but they cannot be solved overnight. He assured that the ministry is negotiating with ambassadors of other countries who could purchase surplus grain:
“Everything cannot be solely based on subsidies. We need to look for systemic solutions. That is why it is also said that farmers should earn money from the production of electricity. This is a reserve branch that allows us to survive the difficult times that we are currently experiencing.”
The farmers’ protest in Wrocław will begin at 6:00 a.m. in front of the Voivodeship Office. Then, with the support of miners, they will march through the streets of the city to the headquarters of the European Commission.
