Poland continues to hold its position in egg production in the European Union
Poland continues to hold its position in egg production in the European Union, ranking fourth after France, Spain and Germany. In 2022, table egg production in Poland amounted to 10.1 billion eggs, an impressive figure. Table eggs account for the predominant part of production (85%), while 15% are hatching eggs.
The development of this sector is driven not only by domestic demand but also by exports. Poland is one of the largest egg exporters in the EU. The main market for Polish products is the European Union. The demand on the Community market has the greatest influence on the volume of exports.
Most chicken egg farms are located in the Wielkopolskie and Mazowieckie voivodeships. It is from these two regions that 62% of domestic egg production is supplied.
In 2021, the volume of egg exports from Poland decreased due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the situation changed in 2022 and 2023, when foreign egg sales returned to a level exceeding 200 thousand tons. According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Finance, 215 thousand tons of eggs were sold abroad in 2023, slightly lower than in 2022 (221 thousand tons).
Egg exports to the EU in 2023 amounted to 188 thousand tons worth 366 million euros. This indicates that Poland is successfully meeting the needs of European consumers for this product.
Overall, Polish egg production continues to grow and has a significant share of the EU market. It is an important branch of agriculture in Poland and contributes to the country’s economic growth.
