Philippines to increase feed wheat imports amid corn shortage

Demand for feed wheat in the Philippines is expected to be strong in MY 2024/25 due to favorable world wheat prices. Feed wheat is used by feed producers as a substitute when feed corn supply is tight or when feed wheat prices are favorable. FAS Manila forecasts a decline in wheat stocks as weather conditions in the Philippines are not conducive to long-term stockpiling.
The Philippines does not produce wheat and relies solely on imports, which are expected to increase due to reduced local production of feed corn due to corn borer infestation in the country’s main corn-producing regions. The main wheat supplier markets for the Philippines are the United States (39%), Australia (37%) and Brazil (16%).
