According to the Ministry of Economy, as of early September, 610 thousand tons of peas had been harvested in Ukraine, which is 30% more than last year. At this stage of the harvest, this is the largest growth dynamics among other agricultural crops in the country.

This year, the sown area under the crop increased by 25% – to 270 thousand hectares.

According to the president of the Ukrainian Bean and Soybean Association (UBSA), Antonina Sklyarenko, Ukraine is among the ten largest pea producers in the world. The UBSA notes that almost the entire volume is exported, and the domestic market consumes approximately 10%.

In 2024, pea exports amounted to 378.6 thousand tons of peas worth $115 million. In the first seven months of 2025, only $28 million was exported, since farmers harvest peas in July-August and export the main part of the harvest at the end of the year.

The main buyers in 2024 were Turkey, India and Italy. The largest number of peas was produced by farmers in the Odessa region (193.4 thousand tons), Mykolaiv region (68.7 thousand tons) and Kirovohrad region (55.6 thousand tons).

“This year’s results are not the limit. In 2026, the area sown under peas may increase by another 15–20%,” says Petro Kravchuk, chief agronomist at HarvEast.

Export prices also act as a stimulus for pea production. Over the year, they increased by 9% to $325/ton. This was facilitated by the opening of the Chinese market for Ukrainian peas and the continuation of the zero duty on pea imports by India.
