Pakistan’s wheat production declines 10% for Rabi Season 2024-25

Pakistan has fallen short of its wheat production target for the Rabi Season 2024-2025, with the estimated yield standing at 28.42 million tons from 9.1 million hectares, well below the target of 33.58 million tons from 10.368 million hectares. This marks a 10% decrease in production compared to last year.
Similarly, tomato and potato production have seen growth, with an 8.8% increase in both crops, reaching 654,000 tons each from 53,000 hectares.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported a significant reduction in rainfall, with 39% below-average precipitation recorded from January to April 2025, and 60% below-average precipitation in April, particularly in southern regions like Sindh and Balochistan.
The PMD expects above-normal precipitation from May to July 2025, with temperatures remaining above normal in most parts of the country, except in July.
