Olive oil production in Tunisia will grow by 55% this season

Tunisia’s agriculture ministry expects olive oil production to rise about 55% this season, boosting both the country’s green gold exports and replenishing government finances, Reuters reported.
“After a significant decline over the past two seasons, production this season has returned to normal levels to 340,000 tons,” said Dorsaf Ben Ahmed, an agriculture ministry official.
Last season, Tunisia’s olive oil exports totaled a record 5.1 billion dinars ($1.65 billion) in monetary terms, helped by a sharp rise in global olive oil prices. Tunisia in the past season was in second place in the ranking of the world’s largest exporters of olive oil, with an indicator of 180 thousand tons. The olive harvest season in Tunisia begins in October and lasts until the end of February.
