Olive oil production in leading countries to fall to 2.65 mln tons
European experts forecast that olive oil production in the six largest producing countries: Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey could reach 2.65 million tonnes in the 2025/26 crop year, down from 2.94 million tonnes produced in 2024/25. However, the figure is expected to exceed the five-year average of 2.41 million tonnes.
Factors such as weather conditions in the coming months will play a decisive role in determining the final harvest, with prices set to fluctuate, Olive Oil Times notes.
An unusually hot and dry summer in Spain and Greece has been one of the main reasons for the steadily decreasing forecast, with experts noting that the final harvest will depend on whether there is rain in late September and October.
Production in Greece could reach 240,000-250,000 tons, comparable to the previous harvest, but the 15% tariff imposed by the United States on olive oil and table olive exports remains one of the main problems facing the sector.
Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv.
