New York court blocks Trump’s tariffs
The US Court of International Trade, located in Manhattan, New York, has ruled to block the import tariffs introduced by the Donald Trump administration as part of an “economic emergency”.
According to CNN, this order concerns the tariffs that the owner of the White House announced on April 2 on “America’s Liberation Day”, as well as previous decrees on tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China. According to the servants of Themis, their application was an excess of presidential powers, since the head of state does not have the right to use tariffs as a means of “punishment”.
Increased tariffs on foreign cars, steel and aluminum will not be put on hold, since they were the result of the activation of other legislative norms – here the judges did not see any legal violations.
US stock markets reacted to the blocking of tariffs optimistically – the indices immediately showed an increase of several percent.
