Moldova’s soybean oil exports have been growing for the past three years

Moldova’s soybean oil exports have shown steady growth over the past three years, reaching a peak of over 9,000 tons by the end of 2024, compared to only 1,140 tons in 2021. In the first half of 2025, 2,550 tons of soybean oil were exported from the Republic.
In the Republic, the product is traditionally not used in the population’s diet, so almost the entire volume produced is exported.
On average, about 80% of the meal and only 20% of the oil are obtained from a ton of processed soybeans. Thus, soybean meal is the main processed product, in demand mainly by domestic and foreign livestock farming, while soybean oil becomes an additional product of the soybean processing industry’s capitalization.
Soybean oil from the Republic is exported to EU countries – mainly to Romania (which is the No. 1 buyer), as well as to Bulgaria, Switzerland, Greece and other countries of the bloc.
Earlier it became known that since the beginning of the season the EU has reduced imports of sunflower oil and significantly increased supplies of soybean oil. Sunflower and soybean oil are imported in the current season mainly from Ukraine (168.2 thousand tons and 25.2 thousand tons).
