Moldova will harvest about 11.5 mln tons of wheat in 2024 – Minister

The volume of wheat production in Moldova in 2024 is expected to reach 1.4-1.5 mln tons. This forecast was announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova Vladimir Bola.
As the Minister reminded, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of Moldova, about 320 thou hectares were sown with wheat in the country this year, which is 20 thou hectares less than a year ago.
“The estimated wheat yield varies from 3.5 to 4.2 tons per hectare, but it can be affected by numerous factors, including tillage methods, fertilizer use, seed quality and rainfall,” he added.
The Agriculture Minister also noted that Moldova annually consumes about 350 thousand tons of wheat, which is processed to produce flour. About 70 thousand tons are used by farmers as seed material, and another 180-185 thousand tons are used to feed animals. The rest of the grain, about 1 million tons, is exported.
“These data reflect Moldova’s ability to produce and export wheat, meeting both domestic needs and contributing to the international market,” said Mr. Bola.
