Mexico will significantly reduce agricultural production in 2025

According to analysts, in 2025, agricultural production in Mexico will be the lowest in the last 7 years, and the situation with corn will be especially critical.
According to the Bank of Mexico, in 2022, agricultural production reached a record 294 million tons, in 2023 it decreased to 293 million tons, and in 2024 – to 281.5 million tons. Experts from the Agricultural Markets Consulting Group (GCMA) predict that in 2025, production will decrease to 280.3 million tons, which will be the lowest figure after 279 million tons in 2018.
The situation will be most difficult in the grain and oilseeds segment, the production of which in 2025 will decrease by 7% compared to the previous year to 32.4 million tons.
In 2024, the country has already dropped from ninth to tenth place in the ranking of the world’s largest agricultural producers, and 2025 will not be any better, as the decline in production will continue for the third year in a row.
Corn production in 2024 was the worst in the last 10 years, and in 2025 it will decrease by another 5.6% to 21.7 million tons, so the country will have to import a record 25.8 million tons of corn, mostly yellow from the United States.
Vegetable production has remained stable at 44 million tons for 4 years, but in 2025 it will also decrease significantly, despite the increase in avocado and berry production in recent years.
At the same time, in livestock production, production volume will remain at approximately 25 million tons.
High market prices have kept food production in Mexico from falling. In 2024, the value of production increased by 15% compared to the previous year to $100.5 billion, although it decreased in physical terms. But in 2025, the value of production could decrease by 8.5% to $92.1 billion.
Further development of the grain sector in the Black Sea and Danube region will be discussed at the 23 International Conference BLACK SEA GRAIN.KYIV on April 24 in Kyiv.
