MARS gives first assessment of winter crop yields in EU

The EU Crop Monitoring Service (MARS) in its first winter crop estimates for 2025 projects soft wheat yields in the bloc at 6 t/ha. This is 8% higher than in 2024 and 4% above the five-year average.
Durum yields are estimated at 3.7 t/ha. The expected figure is 4% higher than last year and 8% above the five-year average.
Winter crops were in good condition in most of the EU at the beginning of spring. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of areas where crops were damaged by adverse weather conditions has decreased. There are still areas where the upcoming weather conditions will be decisive for yields.
Crops were irreversibly damaged in parts of Romania and Bulgaria. The worst conditions are in eastern Ukraine, as well as in Morocco and western Algeria, according to the March MARS report.
