Lithuanian port to launch system to combat theft of Ukrainian grain

Ukraine, together with the United Kingdom and Lithuania, signed an updated Memorandum on the launch of the Grain Verification Scheme (GVS), which will help combat the export of stolen Ukrainian grain from the occupied territories.
This was announced by Ukrainian Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Vitaliy Koval.
The relevant document was signed by the ministers of agriculture of the mentioned countries. “This is the first step at the ministerial level in the implementation of the strategic agreement between Ukraine and the United Kingdom, which will form the basis of our cooperation for the next hundred years,” Koval emphasized.
According to him, the pilot implementation of this initiative will take place in Lithuania – in the port of Klaipeda, which will become a key hub for verifying the origin of Ukrainian agricultural products.
In general, the agreement provides for transparent control over grain: The GVS will help identify stolen grain and stop its illegal transportation. It also provides for the creation of an innovative database from the UK – a technology for determining the place of grain cultivation.
As reported, in October, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine launched the War&Sanctions website, which publishes data on the captains of ships transporting stolen Ukrainian grain.
As a reminder, Russia sent the first batches of the harvest taken from the occupied territory to the foreign market in the summer of 2022. Subsequently, a massive export of grain, worth billions of dollars, was organized. This grain, in particular, was used by Russia to pay Iran for the supply of missiles. In total, Russia sold $6 billion worth of grain from the occupied territories
