Lithuania denies transit of Ukrainian grain to Poland through its territory
The Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania has denied allegations that Ukrainian grain is being exported to Poland through the country. According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Delfi with reference to a statement from the ministry.
“The accusations that Ukrainian grain passing through Lithuania is exported to Poland as Lithuanian grain are unfounded,” the Ministry of Agriculture said.
Regarding the action of Polish farmers on the border with Lithuania, it is noted that the general traffic flow will not be blocked.
“All vehicles arriving from Lithuania will move through the normal traffic lane. All heavy-duty/loading vehicles will be directed to the right-hand lane, and documents for the cargo transported by these vehicles will be checked,” the ministry said in a commentary.
It is specified that the protest action of Polish farmers on the border with Lithuania is scheduled for Friday at 11:00. At noon, its organizers will hold a press conference.
According to Lithuanian broadcaster LRT, the Budzysko-Kalvarija border crossing will be partially blocked. The action will last from March 1 for a week. Initially, it was planned to organize a full blockade of the border crossing, but it was agreed that it would be only partial.
On Thursday evening, a representative of Polish farmers, Karol Pechinsky, said after a meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk that the announced blockade would take place because no agreement had been found. Discussion of the issue will continue in the coming days.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite expressed the opinion that the actions of Polish farmers to block the border “are very similar to the Kremlin’s attempts to quarrel the two biggest supporters of Ukraine.”
Earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said that the actions of Polish farmers resemble “certain hybrid operations that are actively exploited by Russian propaganda.”
