Kazakhstan wheat will start to be sent to China more actively
Kazakhstan grain supplies to China will be optimized. Representatives of the governments of the two countries at a meeting in Astana discussed a number of issues on cooperation in the agro-industrial complex. One of the main issues was the supply of grain.
The press service of the Government, covering the results of the meeting, informed that the interaction on the movement of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and China in recent years has increased dramatically. The main crop that Kazakhstan supplies to its neighbor in the south-east is wheat grain. It is noted that at the end of last year the supply of this crop amounted to about 600 thousand tons, for the first three months of 2024, they have already reached the volume of 220 thousand tons. If we talk in general about the export of agricultural products, for the period of the last five years, it has increased more than 4.5 times. If in 2019 about 800 thousand tons were shipped from Kazakhstan to China, last year – 3.5 million tons.
Kazakhstan is working on a stable “foothold” in China’s grain supply market. China, in turn, does not intend to reduce imports of grain and flour from Kazakhstan.
The authorities of the two countries decided to consolidate their positions at a special event dedicated to grain. It is reported that in June this year in China decided to hold the first joint grain forum, which will bring together representatives of the grain business, representatives of government agencies and companies involved in the supply of grain and flour.
Also the authorities of Kazakhstan offered representatives from China to establish joint projects. As noted at the meeting, projects on deep processing of agricultural products are a priority in relations between Kazakhstan and China.
Another proposal of the Kazakh side to China was the creation of a special structure in the field of agriculture. The main purpose of this subcommittee was called the increase of development potential in the sphere of agro-industrial complex. It is assumed that the new Kazakh-Chinese body will include representatives of the ministries of agriculture, transportation, our National Carrier “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy”, representatives of customs and railroad of China.
Kazakhstan believes that all issues arising locally on the movement of grain and other products should be resolved immediately. And this group will contribute to this.
