The Kazakh government held a meeting of the task force for the preparation and implementation of spring field work.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov, special attention will be paid to expanding corn cultivation this year. A significant increase in acreage is required to supply raw materials for the new vertically integrated industrial park for deep corn processing, Fufeng Group, in the Zhambyl region, as well as the starch syrup production plant, Kazkrakhmal LLC, in the Turkestan region.

The Ministry of Agriculture noted that it is not possible to meet the needs of the new production facilities solely from the southern regions. Therefore, the goal has been set to expand corn acreage in three northern grain-growing regions by an average of 15,000 hectares each.

The Ministry of Agriculture, in conjunction with the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center and the State Variety Testing Commission, is prepared to provide methodological and technological support to the regions, focusing on the implementation of adapted cultivation technologies and the selection of varieties suitable for northern conditions.

Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture held a meeting with a Chinese company, which expressed its willingness to provide practical assistance. The Chinese side is willing to share its experience in growing corn in China’s northern regions, which have similar soil and climate conditions, and to provide technologies and varieties adapted to these conditions. Therefore, the regions are encouraged to express interest and intensify efforts to expand corn cultivation, taking into account international experience.

The projected cropping structure also includes a phased increase in buckwheat acreage. In 2026, it is planned to expand buckwheat cultivation by 10,000 hectares, reaching 101,000 hectares (91,000 hectares in 2025). Regions are instructed to ensure the achievement of established indicators.
