Kazakhstan plans to increase grain exports to China and supply at least 2 mln tons by the end of the year
Kazakhstan mainly supplies wheat to the border and central provinces of China, barley and fodder – throughout China. This information was announced at the operstab on the harvesting campaign in the Government chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin, reports the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the meeting considered the regionality of Kazakhstan grain supplies to China. According to the results of 9 months the volumes of grain transportation in boxcars increased by 75% and by 5% – in grain cars. Supplies in containers decreased by 26%. This is due to the fact that the main volume of grain in boxcars and grain cars is delivered through Khorgos and Alashankou stations to the bonded zone of XUAR, where there are no duties, for processing and further shipment of the finished product. Thus, Kazakh wheat supplies mainly border and central provinces of China. There is 65% duty for deliveries deep into China, and grain is mainly shipped in containers along those routes. Meanwhile, barley and other feed crops are exported throughout China, according to the needs of large procurement companies.
“We have a target of supplying 2 million tons of grain to China this year, but we can increase volumes to 3 million tons. We also need to increase flour supplies to Afghanistan. New contracts and logistics should be one of the main issues at the upcoming Kazakh-Afghan business forum in Almaty,” said Serik Zhumangarin.
Managing Director of JSC NC KTZh Bauyrzhan Urynbasarov presented the main markets of Kazakhstan grain and flour shipments by rail for 9 months of this year. With the total volume of grain shipments of 6.6 million tons (21% less than in the same period last year), the volume of transportation of milling products increased proportionally – 2.7 million tons (21% more than in 9 months of 2023). Out of 6.6 million tons of grain, 5 million tons went for export, and only in September 900 thousand tons were shipped. Exports of milling products totaled 2.1 million tons, of which 310,000 tons were shipped in September.
“The main countries of supply of Kazakhstan grain – Central Asia (2.9 million tons), China (1.3 million tons), Afghanistan (127 thousand tons), these are the volumes for 9 months of this year. It should be noted that after a relative lull, grain supplies to Iran resumed – 211 thousand tons, of which 140 thousand tons – only in September. Other countries – Italy, Turkey and Russia – shipped 423 thousand tons. In the main countries of supply of milling products from January to September shipped: to Central Asia – 495 thousand tons, China – 639 thousand tons, Afghanistan – 666 thousand tons”, – informed Bauyrzhan Urynbasarov.
As of October 7, Kazakhstan harvested 94% of all grain areas. Since the beginning of the harvesting campaign, elevators have received 4.4 million tons of grain.
