International Summit Grain from Ukraine took place in Kyiv

The President noted that the parties had discussed a range of issues related to the defense of Ukraine, cooperation, and paid special attention to the humanitarian initiative “Grain from Ukraine”.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the Russian invasion and Russia’s blockade of Ukrainian exports had caused food prices to fluctuate, the situation on international markets to become unstable and the situation in regions that are critically dependent on grain imports to deteriorate. “We have united the countries of the world to raise funds to help everyone in the world who is most affected by food shortages. In the first year of the Grain from Ukraine initiative, we have managed to accumulate $180 million so far. About 30 participants have joined the initiative. Within the framework of the initiative, 170 thousand tons of Ukrainian grain were delivered to Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia,” the President said.

Zelenskyy added that “our position is principled – we believe that no one in the world has the right to block free navigation, turn food shortages into weapons, use hunger as a weapon – these are elements of genocidal policy.”

As a reminder, the Finnish government has allocated 3 million euros to support the export of Ukrainian grain and to clear the fields of mines in Ukraine. Of this amount, EUR 2 million is humanitarian aid for the Grain From Ukraine initiative to provide Ukrainian grain to the poorest countries. In total, Finland has allocated EUR 11.5 million for this initiative.
