Indonesia’s corn export plans spark mixed reactions

The final clarity on the correctness of this decision will only come by September-October.
Indonesia’s planned mid-June 2025 export of 27,000 tonnes of corn has sparked mixed reactions. AEPI economist Khudori expressed support for the initiative, but stressed the need for a careful assessment. In his opinion, export decisions should be based on annual production data, with final clarity expected by September-October, when 80-85% of the total volume will be known. The projected January-June 2025 harvest is 8.07 million tonnes, up 12.88% from last year, but risks remain.
Unlike 2024, when El Niño affected the harvest, weather conditions this year remain favourable. However, Khudori warns of continued climate unpredictability and other factors that could affect the season’s results, urging caution against premature conclusions about a surplus.
The Ministry of Agriculture announced that three regions are preparing for June corn exports. At the moment, only one region has confirmed the volume of delivery (27,000 tons), while the other two have not yet provided specific figures.
