Indonesia prepares to export rice and corn in 2026
Indonesia’s state-owned food logistics company, Bulog, plans to export both rice and corn in 2026, announced CEO Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani. He stated that this directive comes directly from President Prabowo Subianto, conveyed during the harvest festival on January 7. Bulog will also collaborate with the police to ensure safe and efficient export operations.
In 2025, Indonesia already exported corn, shipping 21,300 tons by November and planning an additional 31,600 tons in December. The export program is made possible by a surplus in corn production, allowing the country to meet domestic demand while supplying international markets.
Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman reported that Indonesia harvested 463,900 tons of dried corn at 14% moisture in 2025, representing a 23.2% increase compared to 2023. Total corn production reached 15.14 million tons, exceeding national consumption of 15.65 million tons.
Minister Amran emphasized that the production surplus is the main reason for encouraging Bulog to prepare for exports. “We are ready to export. Bulog, note that this is not a small task,” he said, highlighting the strategic importance of these export plans for Indonesia’s food security and economy.
