India’s rapeseed crop to renew record in 2024 and cut palm and sunflower oil purchases

India’s rapeseed production in 2024 may reach a record level of 12.09 mln tons, according to analysts of the national association SEA (Solvent Extractors’ Association of India). According to their estimates, the oilseed harvest will increase by 7% over the year.
“The increase will help the country to reduce purchases of expensive palm and sunflower oil from Malaysia, Indonesia, Argentina, Ukraine and Russia,” the experts explain.
Experts assume that the growth of rapeseed harvest will be driven by the expansion of the crop area by 5% to 10 mln hectares.
“However, the production growth will be limited by untimely precipitation and hail, which hit the crops in February-March,” SEA added.
