India’s 24/25 sugar production to increase 4% – USDA
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has raised its forecast for India’s sugar production in the new 2024/25 MY season by 4% to 35.5 million tons (in raw material terms, without ethanol production allocation), equivalent to 33.2 million tons of sugar ( after ethanol production allocation).
Sufficient rainfall during the 2024 monsoon season in India has caused sugarcane to recover sooner than expected, influencing an increase in the USDA’s published sugar production forecast estimate.
Monsoon rainfall will restore soil moisture and increase groundwater availability for cane irrigation in the major sugarcane producing states of Maharashtri and Karnatatsi. Uttar Pradesh, the largest sugarcane producing state, has also received adequate rainfall during the current southwest monsoon season.
The sugar production estimate for the MY 2023/24 season remains unchanged at 34 million tons (in raw material terms, without ethanol allocation), equivalent to 32 million tons of sugar (after volume allocation for ethanol production).
