Indian government raises minimum purchase price of rapeseed

Last Wednesday, India’s Ministry of Agriculture announced that the minimum supported price (MSP) for rapeseed and mustard for 2025/2026 will be Rs. 5,990 ($71.24) or Rs. 6,882 per 100 kilograms, up Rs. 300 (Rs. 344) from Rs. 5,650 this year.
For safflower, the increase was Rs140 to Rs5,940 (Rmb6,824).
Rapeseed is the second largest oilseed crop in India after soybean. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Assam are the major rapeseed producing regions.
Announcing the new minimum support prices for farmers, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, “Providing fair prices to farmers is the top priority of the government and the new rates have been announced today.”
