Import of soybean oil to the EU has increased by 189% since the beginning of the growing season

According to the European Commission, EU oilseed and vegetable oil imports in the 2025/26 marketing year are overall lower than last year, reflecting expected growth in domestic oilseed production and processing.
As of September 21, soybean imports by the EU27 in the 2025/26 marketing year (which began on July 1) totaled approximately 2.86 million tonnes, down 4% year-on-year and 4% from the previous week.
Rapeseed imports totaled approximately 790,000 tonnes, down 35% year-on-year and 42% from the previous week, while sunflower seed imports totaled approximately 60,000 tonnes, down 41% year-on-year and 40% from the previous week.
Regarding vegetable oils, soybean oil imports showed significant growth, reaching 190,000 tonnes, up 189% year-on-year and 173% higher than the previous week. Soybean meal imports totaled 4.01 million tonnes, down 4% year-on-year. EU countries imported 360,000 tonnes of sunflower oil, down 21% year-on-year.
Palm oil was the largest importer, reaching 600,000 tonnes, which is still down 25% year-on-year.
It was previously reported that sunflower processing in the EU declined significantly this season, while soybean processing, on the contrary, rose to a three-year high. Due to high demand, analysts expect further price increases for this product.
