Global wheat production in MY 2025/26 will reach a record high – IGC

The International Grains Council (IGC) expects global wheat production to reach a record 805 million tons in the 2025/26 crop year, according to a press release from the organization.
“Based on the information on the acreage and weather conditions in the main regions, the world wheat production in 2025/26 is preliminary estimated at a record 805 million tons, which is 1% more than in the previous year,” the report says.
According to the results of the current 2024/25 MY, the wheat production is forecasted at 796 million tons. Wheat consumption is expected to reach 805 million tons.
In 2024/25, the forecast for global grain production was lowered by 7 million tons compared to the November estimate to 2.305 billion. Total consumption is expected to reach 2.334 billion tons, up 4 million tons from the previous forecast. The estimate of carryover stocks was lowered by 3 million tons to 573 million.
The forecast for world soybean production in 2024/25 was slightly improved due to higher expectations for producers in South America and Asia – up to 420 million tons.
Expectations for global rice production were kept at the same level of 535 million tons. With higher consumption, total ending stocks will be reduced by about 3 million tons.
