Global sunflower oil stocks cut by over one mln tons in the new season

Uncertainty about the volume of the sunflower harvest in the world has led to tension in the vegetable oil market. Analysts at Oil World (Germany) estimate a reduction in global sunflower oil production in the 2024/25 season at 2.3 million tons.
In April-June, sunflower oil exports decreased by 0.8 million tons year-on-year, and a further reduction of 0.1-0.2 million tons is expected in the current quarter. Thus, the total reduction in MY 2024/25 may amount to about 2 million tons. However, larger-than-forecast shipments from Ukraine and Argentina partially offset the reduction in exports from Russia. Experts believe that the competitiveness of the oil will further improve, given the expected resumption of supplies in the 2025/26 season.
Global sunflower oil consumption next season will increase by only 0.2 million tons, to 22.5 million tons, which is significantly lower than the record 23.8 million tons in the 2023/24 marketing year.
Initial stocks of sunflower oil in 2025/26 MY are likely to be 1.0-1.1 million tons below last year’s level, which will significantly reduce the supply volume. Against this background, sunflower oil prices in August on world markets reached their highest level in the past 33 months, the agency notes.
According to OleoScope, the price of sunflower oil FOB Black Sea from 09/02/2025 for delivery in September amounted to $ 1,135.00 / t, which is $ 10.00 / t lower than the previous value from 09/01/2025 ($ 1,145.00 / t).
