Global soybean processing hits record levels
According to Oil World (Germany), global soybean processing in September rose sharply to 15.4 million tonnes, up 1.1 million tonnes from the same month last year. Analysts expect the upward trend to continue in October, particularly in the United States, where strong crush margins are driving higher processing volumes of soybean meal and oil.
Overall, during July–September 2025, global soybean crush reached a record 45.9 million tonnes, an increase of 3.4 million tonnes year-on-year. In Argentina, however, there is a risk of a short-term strike in the soybean processing sector in mid-November if no wage agreement is reached between the SOEA union and the CIARA industry group by November 6. Experts believe that any potential disruption will be brief, as processors are motivated to keep plants running amid strong profitability and ongoing export commitments for soybean meal and oil.
Global soybean meal exports surged during the third quarter, but growth is expected to slow between October and December due to seasonal declines in soybean processing across South America, especially in Argentina and Brazil.
In September, the five major exporting countries shipped about 6.35 million tonnes of soybean meal, bringing the total for the July–September period to 19.2 million tonnes. Despite the expected slowdown in late 2025, global demand for soybean products remains robust.
