Global rapeseed harvest in the 2026/27 season will exceed 86 mln tons for the first time – Oil World

Experts from the international agency Oil World (Germany) forecast a historic high in global rapeseed production next season. According to their estimates, the gross harvest will exceed 86 million tonnes for the first time in the 2026/27 marketing year. The main drivers of this growth will be the expansion of cultivated area to a record level and a favorable weather forecast in key producing countries.

Rapeseed production is expected to reach 86 million tonnes, exceeding the current season’s figure of 85.6 million tonnes. This growth will be made possible by record-breaking acreage, which will reach 41.9 million hectares, 1.2 million hectares more than the previous year, and a favorable vegetation forecast for all major growing regions.

Country forecast:

• Canada — 21.6 million tonnes (versus 21.8 million tonnes the previous season). Despite the slight reduction in the harvest forecast, the sown area could increase by 4-5%, reaching 9.1-9.2 million hectares. Experts note improved profitability for this crop ahead of the spring planting season.
• European Union — 20.85 million tonnes (versus 20.48 million tonnes);
• India — 11.5 million tonnes (versus 11.4 million tonnes);
• Australia — 7.75 million tonnes (versus 7.68 million tonnes).

Analysts continue to monitor changing climate cycles and note that warming in the Pacific Ocean will continue, which will positively impact the final rapeseed harvest figures.

Previously, the agency’s experts noted that in the 2026/27 season, global sunflower seed production would rise to a record 62.3 million tonnes (versus 56.56 million tonnes previously), thanks to a recovery in yields and an expansion of sown area.
