Germany announced a significant increase in grain imports to Ukraine. No complaints about quality
Imports of feed and food grains from Ukraine to Germany at about 741 thousand tons reached its peak in recent years. This is reported by Wochenblatt with reference to the response of the federal government.
By July 2024, the volumes amounted to almost 490 thsd tonnes. The largest share in imports is corn. This year alone, by July, Germany imported about 447 thousand tons of corn from Ukraine, and in 2023 it was 619 thousand tons of corn.
According to the publication, last year wheat imports were extremely high – almost 106 thousand tons. By July 2024, only about 16.5 thsd tonnes were registered for import. Before the war in Ukraine, wheat imports ranged from 6 to 12 thsd tonnes.
According to the Federal Statistical Office, imports of feed and food grains amounted to about 463.4 thousand tons in 2020, 206 thousand tons the following year, and 497.3 thousand tons in 2022.
“The federal government also emphasized that it has no information about any specific anomalies during the inspections of Ukrainian grain by the official food and feed inspection in Germany. According to the federal government, food and feed imported into the EU from third countries such as Ukraine must also comply with the requirements of food and feed legislation in force in the EU,” the statement said.
