French wheat exports to rise to 8 mln tons

The volume of soft wheat exports from France outside the EU will increase to 8 million in 2025-2026, according to Argus Media
France is the largest grain producer in the EU. The country has just completed the harvesting campaign. The British pricing agency estimated the gross harvest at 33.4 million tonnes. Meanwhile, the European Commission has recently stopped publishing statistics on French wheat exports.
The last season was extremely unsuccessful for French farmers. As a result, wheat exports fell to a minimum of this century – 3.5 million tonnes.
Despite the expected recovery in exports in 2025-2026, Argus predicts that France will end it with the largest soft wheat reserves in two decades – 4 million tonnes.
“With stable demand at home and in Europe, the growth of production in France means that it is necessary to actively export to third countries,” Reuters quotes the pricing agency as saying.
To balance supply, 9.5 million tonnes of exports outside the EU would be needed. However, ample global supply and a downward trend in French wheat shipments to Algeria and China are limiting export potential, analysts at Argus say.
In July, state agency FranceAgriMer estimated French soft wheat exports outside the EU at 7.5 million tonnes, with carryover stocks at 3.9 million tonnes.
