Forecast of Russian wheat harvest in 2025 was reduced by 3 mln tons
SovEcon has lowered the forecast of Russian wheat harvest in 2025 by 3 mln tonnes to 78.7 mln tonnes. This was reported by the Russian Interfax news agency.
“If this forecast is realized, it will be the lowest wheat harvest since 2021, when the production amounted to 76 mln tonnes. The average figure for the last five years is 88.2 mln tons,” the report says.
The winter wheat harvest is forecast at 50.7 mln tonnes. This is 3.6 million tons lower than this year.
The decrease in winter wheat production reflects the lower forecast of its yield – 3.4 t/ha against 3.5 t/ha as estimated in November. Its area before harvesting is estimated at 14.9 mln hectares against 15.4 mln hectares due to the expectation of higher losses of crops from freezing.
The forecast for the gross harvest of spring wheat was increased by 0.6 million tons to 27.9 million tons, due to the likely increase in the sown area to 13.3 million hectares.
SovEcon forecasts the total area under wheat in Russia in 2025 at 28.2 mln ha, compared to 28.5 mln ha in 2024 and 29.8 mln ha in 2023.
