Farmers Association sharply reduced crop forecasts for Germany
Amid prolonged unfavorable weather conditions, the German Association of Farmers’ Cooperatives has significantly lowered its harvest forecasts for 2024, Reuters reports.
In some regions, the harvesting campaign started very early, but continuous rains delayed work and reduced the harvest potential, while good quality grain requires dry and sunny weather.
According to the association’s forecast, in 2024 the harvest of major crops will decrease compared to the previous season:
- wheat – by 6.2% to 20.2 mln tons
- winter barley – by 5.9% to 9.01 mln tons
- winter rapeseed – by 10% to 3.8 million tons.
At the same time, the production of:
- spring barley – by 32.8% to 1.88 mln tons
- corn – by 2.1% to 4.59 million tons.
