Export of Ukrainian peas may increase to 400 thsd tonnes in MY 2024/25
The Ukrainian peas exports may increase to 400 thsd tonnes in 2024/25 MY against 314 thsd tonnes in the previous season, said the market expert Andrii Bilenkyi during the presentation at the online event Trend&Hedge Club on October 2.
He explained the increase in exports by the forecasted production growth, which is estimated at 472 thsd tonnes in Ukraine in MY 2024/25.
“We see the gradual recovery of the pea acreage after the sharp decline in 2022, when the key production region – Zaporizhzhia – was partially occupied by Russia. From 2022 to 2024, Odesa and Mykolaiv regions saw a significant expansion of pea acreage. In 2024, the total area is expected to reach 211 thousand hectares, compared to 240 thousand hectares in 2021, before the war,” he said.
According to the expert, in MY 2023/24 Turkey was the largest importer of Ukrainian peas, with the total volume of 85 thsd tonnes, while significant volumes were also exported to South and Southeast Asia and Europe.
