EU warns that US tariffs benefit China but harm global trade

Top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas believes that the import tariffs imposed by the United States create benefits for China. She said this before a meeting of EU representatives in Brussels, The Guardian reports.
Callas said that Europe needs to “do more together, in the field of defense and think about how to finance new initiatives. Regarding America’s recent tariff decisions, as well as the threat to impose duties on the EU, she said:
“We have been listening carefully to these words and, of course, we are also preparing on our part. It is clear that there are no winners in trade wars. If the US starts a trade war, China will be laughing from the sidelines. We are very interconnected. We need America, and America needs us. Tariffs raise prices, which is bad for costs and consumers,” commented the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Recently, US President Donald Trump signed three decrees on new taxes on imports from Canada, China and Mexico. For Mexico and Canada, they will be 25%, and for China they will be increased by 10% to 35%. In addition, Trump promises to impose duties on another ally, the EU, but there are no hints of a possible restriction on the supply of goods from Russia, one of the main opponents of the United States.
