EU to reduce oil and oilseed imports in new season

According to the European Commission, the total volume of oilseed and vegetable oil imports into the EU since the start of the 2025/26 agricultural year (from 1 July) continues to be lower than last year, reflecting the expected growth of domestic oilseed production and processing.
As of 20 August, the volume of rapeseed imports into the EU27 amounted to around 330 thousand tonnes, down 42% year-on-year and 34% less than the week before.
As for rapeseed oil, the volume of imports amounted to 90 thousand tonnes, an increase of 88% year-on-year.
Earlier it became known that the EU reduced its exports of oilseeds and their processed products by more than 30% in July.
Favourable weather conditions and the expansion of oilseed acreage in key producing countries such as France and Germany make it possible to predict high volumes of domestic harvests. Although according to current estimates from the European Commission, the EU rapeseed harvest is likely to be lower than previously expected (18.5 million tonnes of rapeseed), it will be almost 1.9 million tonnes higher than in 2024.
