EU sugar production to increase by 4% in 24/25 – USDA
According to the forecast of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), in the new season of 2024/25 MY, beet sugar production in the EU will increase by 4% to 15.4 mln tons due to the increase in sugar beet planting area by 6% due to higher sugar prices.
Prolonged rains in Belgium, France and the Czech Republic have delayed the sowing season, while dry weather in other countries, such as Hungary, has affected the growing season, creating uncertainty about the development of sugar beet this year.
In the new season, sugar consumption in the EU should remain at 16.5 million tons, while sugar imports may increase to 2.4 million tons due to imports from Ukraine. Exports will decrease to 1.1 million tons.
