EU reduces grain and oilseed exports in 2025
According to a report by the European Commission, between January and April 2025, exports of cereals, oilseeds, pulses and vegetable oils from the European Union countries showed a significant decrease due to reduced supply volumes. The largest drop was recorded in the cereals segment, where the value of exports decreased by €466 million, or 37% (US$533.5 million), compared to the same period in 2024, due to reduced supplies of wheat and maize.
Exports of oilseeds and pulses decreased by €52 million (22%), and vegetable oils by €40 million (17%), which is explained by the decrease in supply volumes.
Despite the decline in certain categories, overall exports of agri-food products from the EU increased by 4%, reaching €19 billion in the first four months of 2025. The UK has become the main importer, actively purchasing European products, followed by the US and Switzerland, which import dairy products, meat and processed goods.
Analysts highlight the resilience of the European agricultural sector, which has shown growth despite market challenges. The EU is expected to continue adapting to global conditions by diversifying sales markets, improving logistics and introducing new technologies to increase the efficiency of agricultural production.
