EU reduced its forecast for sugar beet yields in the 2024 harvest

The European Union’s crop monitoring service MARS has lowered its yield forecast for 2024 for almost all crops in the region, including sugar beet, due to unfavorable weather conditions during field work.
In particular, in the Benelux countries, western Germany, northeastern France and northern Italy, there is an excess of moisture in the soil, which negatively affects the development and development of crops, according to the bulletin of the MARS monitoring service.
The forecast for the average sugar beet yield for 2024 decreased to 74.4 t/ha from 75.4 t/ha estimated in May, but still remains above the five-year average of 73.2 t/ha.
Sugar beet yield forecasts were lowered in France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Romania.
In France, the forecast for sugar beet yields decreased to 82 t/ha from 84.5 t/ha in May, although it still remains above the five-year average of 78.8 t/ha.
In Germany, beet yields are currently estimated at 74.7 t/ha, down from 75.5 t/ha in May and the five-year average of 75.9 t/ha.
