EU-Mercosur agreement has no direct impact on Ukraine
The EU-Mercosur agreement has no direct impact on Ukraine – our supplies are determined primarily by our own quotas and conditions for access to the European market.
This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
According to him, if we take tariff and non-tariff regulation out of the brackets and look exclusively at the cost price, the Ukrainian agricultural sector is fully competitive and ready for fair competition.
“The problem arises when the conditions for access to the market are different. If products from other countries enter the EU market within a quota with a zero duty, and for Ukrainian products a duty, for example, at the level of 17.5%, then it is difficult to talk about equal conditions of competition. Under the same conditions, we are not afraid of competition,” Taras Vysotsky emphasized.
He recalled that the volumes of our exports to the EU are limited by quotas in any case.
“If, for example, we have a quota of 100 thousand tons with zero duty, we use it in full. If the quota were larger, we would use it too. It does not depend on who else the EU concludes trade agreements with,” the deputy minister concluded.
